Trekking on "Amfiteatrul Transilvania"

   “La Amfiteatru” ecotouristic trekking route

There are quite a few trekking routes in Rucar-Bran mountain corridor, stretched between Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Massifs.

“La Amfiteatru” could be done all year round, being open to a vast majority of travelers, for running or trekking purposes. The total hike resumes 500m in two parts, considering the completion of two hills.

We start the journey from the center of Moieciu de Sus village, walking nearby the signing panel of the route, marked as T9. The path is poorly marked with an orange man, but getting lost is hard to be considered, most of the way covering open pastures with large visibility. The path follows dirt forestry roads, used by the locals to access their properties - pastures and meadows used for cattle grazing.

The route ascends gradually for 250m height, close to the first long hilltop, called Culmea Lunga, after almost 45min of walk from the beginning. The panoramic view over the surrounding mountains is beautifully revealed. A short break for pictures, though…

To the East we see the majestic conglomerate of Bucegi Massif, over the West there’s the 20km long Piatra Craiului crested ridge – always a challenge for hikers, then to the North the lower area of Brasov, completing the image which will follow us from now on for the next hour.

We can prolong the break by having a cold drink (if it’s summer) or a hot drink in winter, at Amfiteatrul Transilvaniei Resort, next to our route.

The gentle walk up on the hill reveals then a series of meadows pointed with rare wooden chalets, here and there, completed with traces of old inhabitation since medieval times.

We’re at the half time of the trip, after 2 hours of walking, on a descending trend, to the same height level of the starting point.

Second part of the trip is similar: gradual ascend on a dirt road, behind Cheile Gradistei Touristic Complex. The path follows a mixed spruce – beach forest, intersected with a few openings with young trees and bushes of wild berries, places preferred by wildlife to feed;

The edge of the forest and the next clear and clean meadows resumes another break to a cozy wooden chalet, Andolia. Time for lunch.

The trip continues with an even pace for the next 30min, together with a scenic landscape of Bucegi Mountains in the last viewplan. Last moments, the path starts winding down between the properties of the locals, back to the starting point, the center of Moieciu de Sus village.

It took 4-5 hrs to do the trip, no rush, easy walk, plenty of pictures taken.
