Rafting, rupestrian settlements and megalithic stones in Luana’s country

Luana’s country (Tara Luanei) is a less accessible but attractive place, included in the Geopark Buzau area, not far from Bucharest. The region is veiled in mystery, legends and stories ranging from aliens to pyramids, energy centers, magic and evil forces making it a destination you cannot miss...

Enjoy a couple of days full of exciting activities, as rafting on Buzau river and trekking to reveal ancient dwellings hidden in the forested hills.

Day 1. Bucharest - Alunis

Drive from Bucharest to Nehoiu town. Prepare yourself for a wet experience.

Rafting on Buzau river. Sail down for 13km!

The river had its calm and relaxing areas, mixed with sections full of waves, small cascades, and rapid currents that needed the team efforts to pass through.

Being inside the boat and paddling in sync creates a bonding atmosphere! Everybody has to listen to the guides’ signals; the cooperation and energy harmonization are the key issues to maintain the boat on top of the waves.

The afternoon visiting the “growing rocks”. Also named the “living stones”, the trovants (as they’re scientifically named) are located on an isolated, sand plateau close to Ulmet village; they have a strangely well burnished surface, with forms varying from perfectly oval to the shape of a mushroom or a flying saucer. The tallest rock in the formation has a height of two meters.

Dinner and accommodation at a local traditional B&B, Alunis Retreat, close to the silent forest.

Day 2. Alunis region. Drive to Bucharest.

Easy-medium trek to visit the rupestrian dwellings. There are 29 caves in the area; among them, the 700 yers old church from Alunis village is still in service, the monks living here since the 4th century BC. Some of the other dwellings dates back from the 6th BC, as well as from the late Christian period.

Return to Bucharest in the evening.
