In and out of the Earth – caving and via ferrata near Brasov

Valea Cetatii cave is located near Rasnov town, at 825m altitude. Hidden by boulders, gravel and alluvium that slipped from the heights, the cave was not visible until 1949, then open for tourists in 2011. The biggest hall next to the entrance is used by the Brasov Philharmonic Orchestra to host concerts for classical music, thanks to the impressive acoustics offered, without any sound amplifier.

Our route from inside of the mountain isn’t open for tourists, the exploration being performed with special equipment – protective wetsuites, ropes and ladders, including via ferrata equipment.

The second activity follows Rasnoavei Gorge, in order to climb the majestic limestone walls from here. Two via ferrata routes await the tourists, depending on the difficulty level: beginner or experienced.  The hardest choice (D graded – hard) has a length between 450-750m and a 250m difference in level, and its passage offers a unique and spectacular perspective of the area. It is equipped throughout with steps and safety cable attached on the stone and has regrouping and withdrawal points in case of accident, fatigue, adverse weather conditions. The easy route needs 50min to survey and has 100m difference in level
