Living the Transylvanian village experience!

CUND & VISCRI & SASCHIZ: THE FUSION OF CULTURES

Over the centuries, this part of Transylvania soaked up German, Romanian and Hungarian traditions - and the result is a fascinating fusion of cultures, apparent in the architecture of the traditional houses or in the Saxon vibe of Churches or in the food, or in the people.
Choose to stay for 3 nights in a Transylvanian village and live the village experience. Combine the local food with art & craft activities but also with a special visit to the medieval towns of Transylvania, visit the fortified churches, the wonderful castles full of history and participate at the local activities: horse riding, hiking on marked trails, truffle hunting, artisan cheese making and much more.

Arriving in Transylvania, to one of the beautiful villages, in Cund.

At Valea Verde, we opened the doors for an authentic experience of Transylvania:  active, immersive and responsible. The restored Saxon houses that our guests live in are scattered through the village, fresh food and ingredients are grown in local households, every walk is an opportunity to talk to a villager, to buy a homemade product, to learn about his or her way of life.

This is how the social fabric, ecology, architecture, cuisine, natural beauty, and historical heritage are protected and grown. Thoughtfully planned and implemented, eco-tourism drives sustainability - and we hope that destinations like Cund will remain intact and unspoiled, for us and for future generations to experience.

Day 1: Bucharest – Peles Castle – Valea Verde Resort Cund

The guide will pick you up early in the morning because it will be a long day by car (with stops, of course) until our destination. This is 340 km distance.

Peles castle is our must-visit. The castle is one of the most beautiful in Europe and definitely the most beautiful in Romania.

Nestled at the foot of the Bucegi Mountains in the picturesque town of Sinaia, Peles Castle is a masterpiece of German new-Renaissance architecture, considered by many, one of the most stunning castles in Europe.

Commissioned by King Carol I in 1873 and completed in 1883, the castle served as the summer residence of the royal family until 1947. Its 160 rooms are adorned with the finest examples of European art, Murano crystal chandeliers, German stained-glass windows, and Cordoba leather-covered walls.

King Carol spared no expense.

Peles Castle was the first European castle to have electricity; it even has its own power plant.
The Castle has hot and cold running water, central heat and central vacuum system.
The stain glass roof of the foyer opens mechanically and there is a small elevator for the royal family.
Each room is decorated in a different style or theme.

There is a Concert Hall, Music Room (India), Turkish Salon, Great Salon (Italy),
Council Room (Switzerland), Moor Hall, and so much more.

The Royal Library has a secret door and the castle's 60-seat Theater, with a royal box, showed the first movie projection in Romania in 1906.

The furniture in the Music Room is carved of teak, a gift to King Carol I from the Maharajah of Kapurtala in India, while handmade silk embroideries adorn the ceiling and walls of the Turkish Salon.

The ceiling paintings and decorative frescoes in the Theater Hall were designed by the renowned Austrian artists Gustav Klimt and Frantz Matsch.

Over 4,000 European and Oriental pieces dating from the 15th to the 19th centuries are on display in the armories.
